A hiking trip in the mountains, a sailing holiday, or exploring remote corners of the globe are amazing experiences. However, the lack of stable mobile data (or expensive international roaming) makes traditional cloud finance trackers useless. Many apps crash or lock you out without an active connection. Let's look at how offline expense tracking solves this.
What is a PWA and How Does It Work Offline?
A PWA (Progressive Web App) is a technology that makes a website behave like a native mobile app. It can run without internet. Key benefits for travelers:
- Local storage: The app saves transaction data directly on your device (IndexedDB/LocalStorage).
- No app store needed: Just open the URL in your mobile browser.
- Auto-sync: Once you connect to Wi-Fi or cellular service, the app syncs your local ledger changes to the group database.

- Appoint one payer: One person covers everything shared for the whole stretch without signal, and nobody transfers anything in the meantime. A hundred small transactions collapse into one list — the only thing that stays accurate without tools. It should be whoever's card works locally.
- Log expenses immediately, in phone notes: Don't wait until evening — small costs are forgotten within hours. Notes work without a connection, and so does the camera: photograph receipts, a dated shot answers half the later questions.
- Record four things: Amount and currency, who paid, who it splits between, and what it was in two words. The "who it splits between" line is the one nobody can reconstruct a week later.
- Track shared cash separately: Where there is no signal there are often no card terminals. If you pool cash, record contributions as well as spending, or the pot becomes a number nobody can account for.
- Reconcile once you have signal: Transfer the list into the group in one sitting, convert at the rate agreed beforehand, and let the settlement reduce the debts to the minimum number of transfers.
Getting ready for a trip?
Create a group in DeliBabki while you have a connection: keep expenses in offline notes on the road, then transfer them into the group when you are back — settling up takes a couple of minutes. Offline mode for the service itself is still planned.
